🟡 Toyota Auris 2.0 D4D timing chain rattle — 2AD-FTV

Rattling from the engine on cold start on the Toyota Auris 2.0 D4D diesel. The 2AD-FTV engine has a known timing chain tensioner issue, particularly on vehicles with inconsistent oil change history. Toyota issued a modified tensioner kit. Regular oil changes with the correct 5W-30 C2 specification oil are essential. The repair requires timing cover removal but the chain and guides do not need to be accessed from the rear of the engine — unlike BMW N47 this is a less invasive repair.
