Subaru Outback CVT Lineartronic shudder and vibration
A shuddering or vibrating sensation through the drivetrain during light acceleration from low speed. The Subaru Lineartronic CVT is generally reliable but develops shudder when the CVT fluid degrades or becomes contaminated. Changing the CVT fluid with genuine Subaru Lineartronic fluid (CVTF-II) every 40,000 km significantly reduces shudder. Do not use generic CVT fluids — they are incompatible and cause permanent damage to the chain-type CVT mechanism.
