Porsche 914 (1969–1976)

The Porsche 914 was a joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen, produced from 1969 to 1976. The mid-engined targa-top sports car used a VW 1.7 or 2.0-litre flat-four in the 914/4, while the rare 914/6 used the 911 flat-six engine. The mid-engine layout gives the 914 near-perfect weight distribution and handling balance that many consider superior to the 911 of the same era. The 914 was controversial on launch — critics called it underpowered and dismissed it as not a real Porsche — but time has been kind and the model is now appreciated on its own merits. The 914/6 is rare and highly collectible. Rust in the longitudinal sills and floor is the primary concern on all examples.
