VW Beetle pushrod tube O-ring oil leak
The O-ring seals at each end of the eight pushrod tubes harden and crack with age, causing oil leaks at the base of the cylinder cooling fins.
Oil leaking from base of engine cylinders. Oil burning on exhaust. Gradual oil level reduction.
Heat and age hardening of rubber O-rings. Normal wear after 30+ years.
Clean engine and run for 10 minutes. Identify oil seeping from pushrod tube ends at cylinder base.
Replace all 8 pushrod tube O-rings with quality rubber seals. Engine removal not required on most applications.
