BMW E60 5 Series N52 Valve Stem Seal Wear — Oil Burning
The N52 petrol engine in E60 525i/530i develops valve stem seal wear above 100,000 miles, causing blue smoke on startup and at overrun. Oil consumption rises to 1L per 2,000-3,000 miles. The seals can be replaced with the cylinder head on the car using a special tool. Cost: £600-1,000. Not replacing leads to catalytic converter contamination.
